🌐America didn't revoke the pursuit of happiness.
🌐It simply rebranded unhappiness and sold it back to us at a premium price.
🌐Every fuckin morning of our lives begins with catastrophe delivered straight to our madulas. Before breakfast we've fuckin survived three political scandals, two potential economic collapses, a celebrity meltdown, and a fuckin weather event dramatic enough to deserve its own worrisome.
Then we're fuckin conviently told that the antidote is to buy something, subscribe to something, vote for someone, fear someone, or fuckin blame someone.
🌐It’s like being served up a steaming hot pile of manure wrapped in gold foil while the waiter insists you're eating glittering artisan chocolate.
🌐We call anxiety "being informed."
🌐We call burnout "hustling"
🌐We call loneliness "independence."
🌐We call surveillance fuckin "security."
🌐 And we call endless consumption "freedom of choice."
🌐The greatest marketing campaign in modern history wasn't convincing people to buy products. It was convincing them that perpetual dissatisfaction is the natural state of a successful citizen. The never declared that satisfaction was bottomless pit.
🌐I suspect that perhaps a happy person is more difficult to manipulate. They don't doomscroll for twelve hours seeking an ounce of happily joy. They don't impulse buy another fuckin solution to their problems that they didn't know they had. They don't fuckin make mistakes in outrage for most purposes or panic into a reflex thats towards patriotism.
🌐So maybe the fuckin machine keeps the volume turned on up.
🌐 where fear becomes entertainment.
🌐Entertainment becomes news.
🌐News becomes identity.
🌐Identity becomes another product on the motherfuckin shelf.
🌐The old promise was life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
🌐The updated edition reads more like this fuckin steaming bullshit,
🌐that life, if you can afford it.
🌐Liberty, so long as it doesn't interrupt quarterly profit margins.
🌐And the relentless pursuit of a happiness that always seems to be one purchase, one election, one promotion, or one algorithm away.
🌐Maybe the greatest act of rebellion isn't shouting louder than everyone else.
🌐Maybe it's refusing to let your attention become someone else's raw material.
🌐Because a society addicted to unhappiness will gladly mistake the wrapper for the chocolate.
🌐Even when it still tastes like fresh ripe shit.
