💀💀💀THE INTERNET IS EATING YOUR FUCKING SOUL💀💀💀
BY
👀FELONIOUS 👁 ACADEMIC👀
💥💥💥First comes their infinite appetite. The internet devours our data crumbs, our ragebaited arguments, our faces metrics, our birthdays, breakups, our heart rate, and ect, ect, ect. We call it content because if they were to call it “food”,
💥💥💥itd sound too disturbing for us, even the stupidest of the herd to go unrealizing, that we were in the midst of being eaten alive. Every post is a bite for the devils fork. Every photograph is a calorie for them to digest. Every confession is another morsel or filet thrown into the mouth of the machine. A deity that never gets a full stomach.
💥💥💥We have somehow allowed these oppressors to build a civilization for us to live, where documenting your breakfast dish can become data, your anger can become advertising strategies, your loneliness can become overcome via a recommendation engine, and your dead corpse of a grandmother can become an engagement statistic. The strangest fuckin part is, that weve allowed it to construct, they even decorated the entrance ways with little fuckin blue thumbs Up. We don't just merely feed the internet information no, we season it with ourselves. Peppering it up with our Personality traits as its spice. Trauma is the premium cut filet. Outrage is the goddamn hot sauce.
💥💥💥we produce the meal, then call ourselves consumers while eating alongside the very thing consuming us.
💥💥💥Then comes the consumption. The internet doesn't actually need our held attention because it finds us endlessly interesting. The machine isn't necessarily fascinated by what your dumbass said you silly billy. it's fuckin fascinated by what made you say such a thing, what made you stay put, what made you beat feet, what made you return at 2:17 in the morning, just to read the same sentence again.
💥💥💥We think we're browsing the internet, but increasingly the internet is browsing us. Every pause becomes a punctuation To analyze. Every hesitation becomes a fingerprint Of reason. Every rabbit hole dove down becomes a confession written down, without any words from your own mouth. We spend enormous portions of our lives manufacturing evidence that we existed, then surrender the same evidence to systems capable of remembering us better than we EVER remembered ourselves. Big Brother doesn't need binoculars anymore. We installed the window inside our pockets and began narrating our own surveillance for him.
💥💥💥The cage became so fuckin comfortable to be within, that we started calling the bars “features” And cellular “Cells.” For the jail cells we pay handsomely to live up under. ever when prisoners upheaval over a better cell. The warden simply offers them uppersonalizations or a new model.
💥💥💥imagine the feeds disappearing tomorrow
💥💥💥The meals dry up. For the first time, the machine would hypothetically starve under the famine. And perhaps that is when wed discover something terrifying about our relationship with technology.
💥💥💥That maybe the internet was never merely a place we went or explored. Maybe it became an artificial ecosystem whose survival increasingly depended upon our continuous performance of being human beings. We post because we want to be seen, but being seen generates data, data generates prediction, prediction generates influence, influence generates behavior, behavior generates more data. With The circle in a repetitive loop. Where The human being becomes both the audience and the ordurves.
💥💥💥We thought social media was a collection of mirrors we could look into. We didn't notice that the mirrors were looking thru us.
💥💥💥And that leaves us with the question nobody wants printed above the login screen,
💥💥💥 Are we the consumers, or have we always been the consumed?
💥💥💥Perhaps the greatest trick of the digital age wasn't convincing us to surrender our privacy for security. It was convincing us that privacy was the only thing being surrendered. We surrendered convenience for a Big Brother. We surrendered anonymity. We surrendered the right to disappear off grid. We surrendered the strange, beautiful human ability to have an experience that leaves no record behind other then the memories we cherished.
💥💥💥Now we photograph the sunset, upload it, tag it, locate it, monetize it, measure its engagements, and preserve it forever for an algorithm to remind you every so often of that day. Only to scroll past the damn thing three seconds later looking for another sunset That has better lighting We have built a civilization terrified of being forgotten, and in doing so created a machine that never forgets anything. Maybe the ultimate freedom of the future won't be having more followers, more data, or more connectivity. Maybe it will be the ability to exist for an entire day without producing evidence that you ever existed at all That day. Because perhaps the final rebellion will become, logging off this shit before they diet on everything that makes us not them.
